One thing we loved about traveling the past two weeks is that we only had to stay in a hotel for a single night. The rest of the days we were immersed in the homes and lives of other people.
Yvz and I love having people over, but there’s something about being on the receiving end, in an unfamiliar area, and leaning upon others that is refreshing as well. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip was visiting my cousin Gloria and her husband Ernie. They graciously housed us, fed us, guided us around the city, and even attempted to brainwash us into becoming Boston Red Sox fans.
I’m so glad we didn’t just travel on our own and lodge ourselves in commercial hotels this trip. There’s just something so beautiful and human about community, interdependence, and hospitality.
Being unexpectedly splashed by Ernie

They introduced us to the boardgame Scotland Yard. I look ridiculous.

Is that Scotland Yard as in British police? I’ve not heard of that game before.
I have a funny story about Scotland Yard actually. When I was 16 we had a politics trip to London to go round the Houses of Parliment and attend a conference. At lunchtime we were left to our own devices and we all went to a local pub and bought alcoholic drinks (which is illegal). Anyway, after lunch we walked outside and realised that the pub we were in was right next door to Scotland Yard and that we’d been having our illegal drinks in a pub where many of the Police guys themselves go at lunchtime! Lucky we weren’t caught!!

I own the game Scotland Yard. I could never figure out how to play that game..
Boston Red Sox fans are so passionate about their team! I think I saw more people wearing Red Sox gear in a single day in Boston, than I’ve seen in 10 years here for wearing Toronto Blue Jays stuff.

I wonder if they can still charge you for your underage drinking habits now that you’ve confessed online!
ebrian - you’ve gotta play it! it’s fairly simple and pretty exciting! and yes, baseball’s dead in toronto
